A diorama of Frank Stoeber and his Giant Ball of Twine at his farm in 1953
Four years after Stoeber started, it had grown to 5,000 pounds and was 8 feet high. In 1961, he donated the ball to Cawker City, Kansas. By September 2013, the Giant Ball weighed 19,873 pounds. Displays such as this dot the Cawker City landscape. The city has embraced the concept of having the World’s Largest Ball of Twine, and what they do ensures that nobody forgets it.
