7 Facts On the Lion’s Mane: The Biggest Jellyfish

Long Tentacles for Hunting

The giant jellyfish catches its prey with the use of its tentacles. The length of the tentacles allows it to spread a long and wide web to catch unsuspecting fish. It does not capture the fish or wrap it with its tentacles. Instead it stings the fish with the sharp barbs on the tentacles, which inject a poison on the prey. Of course, there are some fishes, which are immune to the jellyfish sting. You do not get to live in the ocean without developing some immunities or defenses against natural predators. These immune fishes swim within the jellyfish’s tentacle area and feed off whatever scraps it finds.
