Mt. Thera, approx. 1610 B.C. (VEI 7)
Present day geologists believe that Mount Thera erupted with a force with the power of hundreds of atomic bombs back in 1610 B.C. At this level, the VEI should measure it at around 7. Unfortunately there are no documents to support this theory. If this is true, this could have been the strongest eruption ever with man in existence. The volcano’s location is now the island of Santorini, a very popular tourist point of interest.
