7 Facts On the Lion’s Mane: The Biggest Jellyfish

Different Sizes with Different Colors

The giant jellyfish ranges in size from 50 cm (20 inches) in diameter. Those found in lower latitudes are usually smaller, while those in higher latitudes (and cooler waters) are larger. Color is also related to the size of the jellyfish. Larger jellyfishes are of dark purple to a bright crimson color. Smaller specimen range from a light orange color to tan. The term “lion’s mane jellyfish” stems from their long massive clumps of tentacles which look like the mane of a lion.
