The largest hailstone was larger than a softball
Some were even described as being as large as volleyballs. Unfortunately, or fortunately, the largest specimen found had already melted a bit when they were measured. The picture below gives an idea of how large these are. This one is almost still frozen in its largest shape. These are not cute little smooth balls. These are several pieces of ice which have bonded together to form one single large hailstone.
