So massive was its explosion in1883 that it lasted for two days in continuous fashion. It was heard thousands of miles away. A massive tsunami was created by it and the waves reached as high as 140 feet. More than 34,000 people perished in the ordeal. It left a caldera which houses the Anak Krakatoa volcano.
