Mt. Tambora, Sumbawa Island, Indonesia – 1815 VEI 7
Mount Tambora recorded one of the biggest explosions in history. The VEI scale had it at a 7 which puts it at a mega-explosion level. This is just one stage down from the highest scale level. Tambora is still very much active and dominates the natural skyline of Indonesia. In Aprils of 1815, Tambora had its biggest eruption ever. It was so loud that it was heard all the way to the Island of Sumatra and killed 71,000 people.
